Working Together Newsletter Sparks New J&J, Rutgers Collaboration
Our partnership was pleased to find out recently that Sterile Process Technology, a J&J Corporate department in the Worldwide Operations organization, learned of Rutgers’ expertise in polymer chemistry from the Fall 2008 issue of Working Together. J&J is now working with Rutgers chemistry professor Kathryn Uhrich and her research group to explore the impact and effects of sterilization on polymers with commercial potential invented at Rutgers.

Rutgers University Press Launches Mapping New Jersey at Johnson & Johnson
Drawing on 400 years of history, a definitive new atlas, Mapping New Jersey, published by Rutgers University Press, depicts the state’s transformation from an agricultural society to a postindustrial and culturally diverse state. J&J helped launch the new book by hosting a reception at its world headquarters in New Brunswick.

New Jersey Film Festival Spring 2010
The Rutgers Film Co-op/New Jersey Media Arts Center, in association with the Rutgers University Program in Cinema Studies, will present the 28th annual New Jersey Film Festival starting in January 2010. The New Jersey Film Festival has been supported in part by J&J since 1993.

National Institutes of Health Funds Rutgers Research on the Effects of Alcohol on Fetuses
Dipak Sarkar, a professor of animal science at Rutgers, recently received a $3.5 million MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study the damaging effects of alcohol on the nervous systems of the unborn. The MERIT (Method to Extend Research In Time) Award extends NIH support for an additional 10 years.

New Study Reveals Link Between Stress Reduction and Increased Fertility
A study funded by Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies Inc. reported a pregnancy rate of 52 percent among women who participated in a stress management program; there was a 20 percent pregnancy rate for women who did not participate in the program, which educated women on the use of cognitive, relaxation, and lifestyle techniques to manage stress.

Rutgers Protein Data Bank is Sole Online Archive for Thousands of Molecular Structures
The Protein Data Bank at Rutgers, directed by Helen M. Berman, is the world’s single repository for three-dimensional structures of large molecules and nucleic acids. The free online archive of more than 50,000 molecule structures allows researchers and students to study, store, and share molecular information on a global scale, with implications for a wide range of research on such conditions as HIV/AIDS, allergies, and heart disease.

On View at the Zimmerli Art Museum
Johnson & Johnson is a corporate member of the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum. Its support underwrites exhibitions, educational programs, and publications. In recognition of its support, Johnson & Johnson employees enjoy free admission to the museum and other benefits.
And the 2009 Holiday Boutique at the Zimmerli Art Museum is open for a unique holiday shopping experience through December 23.

The Brodsky Center for Innovative Print and Paper presents its annual exhibit from December 15 to January 22, 2010. The center’s gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays by appointment. Admission is free. (The gallery will be closed December 25–January 3, 2010). It is at 33 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick.
